Danny the Whippet gets introduced to fine art photography

Photographing Danny, the Whippet

Meet 20-month-old Danny, a Whippet who enjoys sandy beaches, ferreting through his toy box and lazy mornings.
There is one thing he’ll get up for on a Saturday though, and that’s the local park run.

With Whippets, you could say that the clue is in the name. At full stretch, they can reach speeds of up to 35 mph, but fortunately, they only need a short burst of running to satisfy their exercise requirements. Sounds ideal!

Danny enjoyed a speedy session in the local country park, where I aimed to get some action shots. I think the speed at which he was running was captured beautifully in this image.

It’s safe to say Danny has been the star of the show recently, boasting a total of three outdoor photo shoots in a forest, a nearby beauty spot and a country park.

How Danny’s owners found the experience

For the purpose of this article, Danny’s owners, Gillian and Richard, were interviewed and gave some insightful feedback on the process of the photo shoots.

Let’s look at how the experience went for Danny, Richard and Gillian.
Going into the first photo shoot, Gillian and Richard expected Danny to be a little difficult to photograph. “We didn’t expect him to cooperate”, said Gillian, “due to the number of distractions and having to sit still in certain poses”.
However, Richard said the process was, in fact, “surprisingly easy!
When Danny arrived on set, he seemed to switch to the mindset of an actual dog model and stay focused”. Yes, Danny! That’s the spirit.

Photographing Danny at the local beauty spot was truly enjoyable, and I think he liked it too. It had lots of flowers and manicured lawns to dream about tearing up! But of course, Danny knew he was in company, so he kept on his best behaviour for the camera.

The results of Danny the Whippet’s photo shoots

Danny truly enjoyed the shoot in the local beauty spot. It’s where we got some of these shots:

And check out these action shots of the high-speed hound in the country park; just look at those muscles and that face of determination!

We decide on a location by considering a few factors: the weather, the busyness of the venue, and the style of photo you’re aiming to achieve. I particularly enjoy creating fine-art photography and high-definition action photography.

Last but certainly not least is the Owner’s Choice. Gillian and Richard said this was their favourite image.
