Pet Photographer Spotlight: Florence the Gentle Rottweiler in the Wyre Forest
When Amanda’s youngest son left home for university, the house suddenly felt a little too quiet. Like many parents adjusting to life after their children fly the nest, she anticipated the loneliness that might follow. But instead of sitting in silence, Amanda brought home Florence — a Rottweiler pup with a big heart and an even bigger personality.
Now 11 months old, Florence has become Amanda’s loyal companion and comic relief. “She kept me busy at a time that would otherwise have been quite lonely,” Amanda said. “She’s such a funny character — she tries to sit on my lap even though she weighs almost 40kg!”
At home, Florence is full of quirks. If Amanda leaves the room, Florence doesn’t let her out of sight. She’ll sit by the glass door watching, and if she’s being ignored, she’ll even lick the glass to get attention. Her favourite activities include going for walks, playing fetch, and gently chasing the cats around the house — always playful, never aggressive. She’s also taken well to training, enjoying the chance to learn new things and impress her favourite person — Amanda.
The photo shoot took place in the stunning Wyre Forest — a location Amanda had been meaning to visit for a while. “It was even more beautiful than we expected,” she said. “We thoroughly enjoyed the shoot. Florence behaved perfectly and got to show off some of her new tricks.”
Amanda had one main goal: to have professional photographs of Florence she could display around the house. She chose Pets Make Portraits after searching for a trusted pet photographer in the West Midlands — someone who could capture Florence’s fun, loving personality in a natural setting. Her favourite image from the session is third one across in the gallery above — a portrait that perfectly captures Florence’s expression and love of life.
Behind the Lens
As a pet photographer, I often say the best sessions are the ones where the bond between owner and dog is undeniable — and that was exactly the case with Amanda and Florence. From the moment we met, Florence was calm, attentive, and curious — full of personality, but never overexcited.
Our outdoor dog photography shoot in the Wyre Forest gave me the perfect opportunity to capture Florence in her element. The soft light, peaceful trails, and the trust between Amanda and her dog made it easy to get those natural, expressive shots I always aim for. Watching Florence respond to commands, sit proudly, and interact so gently with Amanda reminded me why I love what I do.
This wasn’t just a photo shoot. It was a chance to tell a story — about companionship, change, and the joy a dog can bring into your life.
